About Madresa Furqaniyah Aliyah
Madresa Furqaniyah Aliyah (Makhtab) is a primary Islamic madrasa for children, where they receive basic Islamic education. The curriculum includes learning to read and recite the Qur'an (Nazera), memorizing the Qur'an (Hafiz course), basic Islamic laws, Arabic, Urdu, grammar, and practical Islamic teachings such as performing Namaz. Islamic education in Makhtab is considered compulsory for all Muslim children.
Currently, the Makhtab has ten classes: six classes are for Nazera, two are for Hifz, and two are designated for girls aged eleven and above, taught by two female teachers (Aapa). One of the classrooms dedicated to the Hifz course was donated by Hawwa Gulam Desai and is located above the storeroom of the Jumma Masjid. The Makhtab serves as a vital institution for fostering Islamic knowledge and values among children in the community.
Madresa Furqaniyah Aliyah follows the beliefs of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, adheres to the Hanafi school of thought, and aligns with the disposition of Darul Uloom Deoband. Its philosophy and practices reflect the teachings of Hujjat-ul-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mohammed Qasim Nanotvi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), Imam Rabbani Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), and Hakeem-ul-Ummah Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullahi Alaih).

History of Madresa Furqaniyah Aliyah
The Journey of Makhtab: A Pillar of Education
The Madresa Furqaniyah Aliyah (Makhtab) was established around 1875, soon after the construction of the Jumma Masjid, and has been a vital institution for Islamic education in Jogwad. Initially, the Makhtab operated in a small building located within the compound of the old Jumma Masjid. Around 1938 CE (1356 Hijri), a larger Makhtab building was constructed at the cost of 5,000 Indian Rupees. This new building, made of teak (Saag) wood in the traditional Indian style, featured a balcony and accommodated around 9 to 10 students, reflecting the small population of Jogwad at the time.
According to Janab Shabbir Patel, around 1948, Hafez Fakir Adam Sidat Sahab from Makadiya Village served as the Ustad (teacher) at the Makhtab. He lived in Jogwad and received a monthly salary of 15 Indian Rupees, with the villagers supporting him by providing food and other necessities. This account forms an important part of the Makhtab's rich history.
In 1966, the old Makhtab building was martyred along with the original Jumma Masjid to pave the way for new structures. The Makhtab building was completed in 1968, just before the Jumma Masjid, allowing prayers and Makhtab sessions to be held on its first floor temporarily.
The Makhtab has a proud history of using classical texts (Kitabs) such as Urdu ki Pehli, Urdu ki Dusri, Bahishti Samar, Chahal Sabak Farsi, Urdu Kayda, Talimul Islam, and Qayda Bagdadi (Noorani Qayda) to educate students. These foundational books provided a robust curriculum, introducing students to Urdu, Farsi, Islamic principles, and Qur'anic studies, ensuring a well-rounded religious and moral education. With a historical record of Ustads dating back to 1910, the Makhtab showcases over a century of dedicated service to nurturing Islamic values and knowledge within the community.
The Hafiz class, a cornerstone of the Makhtab, has been running for approximately a century, highlighting the deep connection of Jogwad Village with Islamic values since its establishment. Over the years, numerous individuals have completed their Hifz (memorization of the Qur'an) at this institution. Additionally, the Makhtab has served as an educational hub for students from surrounding villages, reflecting its significance beyond Jogwad.
