About Muslim Death Notes of Jogwad Village
A Complete Record of Jogwad's Muslim Death Notes.
The tradition of recording the death notes of Jogwad's Muslim community dates back decades. From 1965 to 1984-85, Saleh Hasan Makda (Tanki) maintained these records, though some entries were occasionally missed. In 1984-85, Mol. Muhammadiqbal Gulam Desai took over this responsibility at the young age of 15, ensuring that every death record was meticulously documented.
Mol. Muhammadiqbal Gulam Desai maintained a handwritten book, carefully noting down every essential detail of the deceased, including: Name of the deceased, Date and Islamic date of death, Time of death, Burial time, Relatives of the deceased, Grave location and grave number (line-wise), Cemetery name, Namaz-e-Janazah lead Imam's name, Any additional grave-related note.
For years, people from Jogwad would visit him to gather information about their deceased relatives. Recognizing the importance of preserving and making this historical record more accessible, his son, Aezaz Desai, took the initiative to digitize these records.
In 2015, with the support of his father and mother, Aezaz began uploading the records online using Jogwad’s Blogger platform. Then, in 2025, he developed this dedicated website, structuring the records in a well-organized format with search and filter options to help users easily find details about graves and deceased individuals.
We have death records from 1935 to today, and after the initiative taken by Mol. Muhammadiqbal Gulam Desai, not a single death note is missing. He carefully documented each and every record with precision, ensuring that no detail was overlooked or lost.
Additionally, Aezaz has personally visited cemeteries in Jogwad and surrounding areas, gathering information from gravestones to add missing records to the database.
