A Beacon of Islamic Education in Jogwad.
Darul Uloom Jamiyah Zakariya, a renowned Islamic university for boys, stands as a beacon of Islamic education in Jogwad Village. This prestigious madrasa has grown to become a well-known institution for comprehensive Islamic learning, attracting approximately 500 students annually. The madrasa offers a diverse curriculum that includes Hifz-e-Quran, Islamic law (Shariyat), and advanced classes for Qari and Mufti training. Students from various states and countries join this institution to receive Islamic education alongside local students.
In addition to its main campus, the madrasa also operates a sub-branch, Darul Uloom Yatama Walmasakin, which is dedicated to serving orphaned and underprivileged boys. This branch continues the institution's mission of spreading Islamic knowledge and upholding the legacy of its founders.
Darul Uloom Jamiyah Zakariya follows the beliefs of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, adheres to the Hanafi school of thought, and aligns with the disposition of Darul Uloom Deoband. Its philosophy and practices reflect the teachings of Hujjat-ul-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mohammed Qasim Nanotvi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), Imam Rabbani Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), and Hakeem-ul-Ummah Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullahi Alaih).

Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, (Hanafi and disposition of Deoband).
The foundation of Darul Uloom Jamiyah Zakariya was laid by Maulana Hashim Patel of Jogwad on what is believed to be 24th May 1983. This date holds deep significance, as it marks exactly one year after the passing of his revered Shaikh, Hazrat Maulana Sheikh Zakariya Kandhalwi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), who passed away on 24th May 1982. Maulana Hashim Patel was deeply inspired by his Shaikh’s life and teachings, striving to follow his example in every aspect of his own life.
The madrasa officially commenced on 12th August 1983 when Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Raza Ajmeri (Rahmatullahi Alaih) visited Jogwad. It started humbly in a small room with just 14 students memorizing the Quran while the construction of the madrasa was still underway. Over the years, Darul Uloom Jamiyah Zakariya has flourished, producing 851 students who have completed the Hifz-e-Quran course and 324 Aalims who now teach Islamic studies in various parts of the world.
The madrasa was established in memory of Shaikhul Hadis Hazrat Maulana Sheikh Zakariya Kandhalwi (Rahmatullahi Alaih), with Maulana Hashim Patel’s unwavering dedication to carrying forward his Shaikh’s legacy. Maulana Hashim Patel, the founder, currently resides in England but continues to remain connected to the institution’s progress.
The land for the madrasa was generously donated by several prominent individuals and families from Jogwad. Maulana Hashim Patel himself donated a significant portion of land. Other notable contributors include Mahmad Ibrahim Patel, Yusuf Mahmad Makda (Mota Bhai), Yusuf Hasam Lal Makda, and Hafeji Ismail Mahmad Makda, who donated additional land where new buildings and houses for Ustads were later constructed. Haji Ibrahim Mahmad Fakir Desai also offered to donate land for the madrasa, located in Desai Street and behind his house. Although this land was ultimately not used due to management’s preference for another location, Haji Ibrahim’s generous offer is remembered as an important gesture in the madrasa’s history.
Today, Darul Uloom Jamiyah Zakariya stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of its founders and donors, continuing to inspire and educate generations of Islamic scholars and leaders.
